It is easy to get carried away at times with online spats with racists who have a deep sense of entitlement. Don’t spend much of your precious time arguing with them. Don’t hurl insults or obscenities, stick to the facts.
My response to a man who thinks we should “just get over it” and assimilate into Canadian society clearly lost this argument because I was more educated about the issue than he was.
I will not be bullied. I will not be silenced or erased. I will always defend Indigenous people’s right to be heard. Our histories matter. WE matter. It’s up to us to correct the racist one-sided account of how Canada became a nation. Its time we confront colonialism head on with facts.
But limit the amount of time you spend online arguing with strangers. We don’t really need more online warriors, we need our people engaging with one another in person. Speaking our Indigenous languages and going to ceremony makes a much bigger impact than sitting on a computer arguing.
